About Me

I love reading, teaching and cooking. I exercise so I can eat. (Losing weight would be a bonus.) I've been a special education teacher for 32 years and I really like it. I also enjoy traveling but I think I plan more that I actually travel.

Back to School

School has started and now I feel like I don't have the time to do the things I need to do or want to do.

I have all kinds of things I need to do for school on a daily basis. But do I leave behind my reading, exercising and cooking that I want to do? Never! (And I didn't even mention blogging. This is when I usually take 9 months off from that.)

I will squeeze in what ever I can, with a smile on my face. Maybe I will surprise myself.

To Kill a Mockingbird

I watched the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" again last night. I've probably seen it at least 4 or 5 times. The only thing better is reading the book.

Homesick for Vacation

So I was listening to a podcast today about throwing a pool party, and I immediately equated that with going to the beach. Then they started discussing drinks to serve and the poolparty (beach!) and of course margaritas came up. Needless to say, that was generally the drink of choice on our beach vacations.

For 20 years my husband and I and 2 other couples we knew from college would rent a house at Fort Morgan, Alabama. We haven't been for the last 2 years because now we live SO far away. But listening to the podcast made me so homesick for our traditional vacation. A week at the water's edge reading, talking, watching the kids, relaxing. Listening to that podcast made me miss the beach, my friends, girlfriend talk, my kids(even though they are grown now).

OK, next summer, Fort Morgan here we come!

Thoughts of the Future

So today I actually invisioned what I could be doing if I retired. Blogging (on a regular basis), reading, cooking, exercising, a few household chores, a big project every now and then (like painting the bathroom,) and of course, the ocassional outing with friends. I just can't fit all of that in when I am working the job I get paid for! School starts in 1 1/2 weeks and while I'm not dreading it, I'm not really looking forward to it either. This is not necessarily a good thing because I probably need to work at least 10 more years. Oh well, I'll just have to work on finding a balance.

Cactus Hug

I am embracing technology reluctantly. A little like someone would embrace a cactus. I just don't want to be left out, so today I created a Twitter account. It will be interesting to see how much of this I can keep up with once school starts again.

Be Fun

My husband pointed out to me that I read only the fun parts of The Wall Street Journal. My response was that I was a fun person.

Recipe to try - Cobb Salab

Saw this recipe in the Wall Street Journal and I knew I had the diced chicken left over from one we roasted on the grill earlier. It was great and the dressing is delicious. It makes a ton (not literally). I halved it and my husband had 2 helpings and some left over for lunch the next day. My husband likes blue cheese, but I put feta on mine. It made a great light meal.

It's happened again!

Each summer I sit down to restart my blog. Being a teacher, the school year just gets to me and the blog is low on my list. How can that be? I love to read blogs and I enjoy reading mine. I just did that and it made me smile. So I'm blogging for myself. Now I want to start another blog. What am I thinking? Well, after losing notes and thoughts to a bummed hard drive, it was nice to be able to pull up my web based efforts. But I'm not going to make any promises...
